Jack Deveraux was the oldest of his parents' four children. His younger brother Aaron was born with a rare and incurable genetic illness, so Jack was very protective of him...and his sisters as well. His protective streak grew to encompass anybody that he perceived as being either weaker or less capable. The family lived in rural northern Louisiana, deep in what is considered Cajun country. The local schools were not of the best caliber, and Jack's grades were not very good--hovering between average and mediocre. Jack's only saving grace was his natural athletic ability; he excelled in soccer, track and field, archery and baseball. But even these were not enough to get Jack into college. Seeing few alternatives, he enlisted with the MACOs in 2145. |

After completing basic training, Private Deveraux was assigned to security duty at the New Berlin lunar colony training facilities. There, the young Private earned a reputation as an excellent marksman able to make seemingly impossible shots. He completed the MACO sniper training program in 2147, resulting in a promotion to Corporal.
Late that same year, Jack was transferred to security duty at the government complex at the Alpha Centauri colony. His tenure there was uneventful until 2151, when separatists laid siege to the Government complex for eight days. Jack led a squad that conducted dating raids into the complex to rescue key personnel and was instrumental in retaking the complex. He received a commendation and a promotion to Sergeant. |
