I wasn't sure the best place to put this, so I created a new thread. Feel free to move it if needed.
Anyway, I was actually thinking the other day that while we do all of our posting in the forums, would it be worth adding our posts as joint posts using the Nova software? Even if only the captain could edit posts, adding them as separate viewable posts would allow us to link specifically to a single post. When it's completed and added to the completed posts thread, the text could also be added to a new join post. It would also allow Nova to send an email out to everyone when a new post is added.
It may not be worth the trouble. It was just a thought that I thought I would raise. Feel free to shoot it down.

It might be worth looking into, but honestly I kind of butchered a lot of the code for Nova to get it to display the way that I wanted it as the information side of the forums - I can't remember how much of the posting functionality I left intact.
One thing you can do though is subscribe to threads, or even entire forums. For posts the option to subscribe is at the top of the thread on the left, and on forums its at the top of the list of topics on the right. You can also tick the box 'notify me when a reply is posted' when writing a post, which will subscribe you to the thread. It's not a perfect solution; it doesn't email you the contents of what has been posted, and it will only email you once until you go and read the topic and get it marked as read, but it at least alerts you when something has gone on. I'm subscribed to all of the forums on the site, so I get a notification even when someone starts a thread I haven't participated in yet.
I have looked in the past to see if I can get it to subscribe everyone to all forums by default, but I couldn't find it in the standard install of phpBB. I'm brushing up on all of my coding skills at the moment, so I might look to creating a mod that will allow me to do something similar - maybe one that will email the contents of any posts in the main mission area or the joint posts area out to all members by default. But I'm also looking towards the next version of Nova. From what I've been reading about it, it is going to include a built-in forum in the core, so we'll probably migrate over to that when it is released. It'll probably be up to the whole crew as to whether we switch our posting format over to Nova at that point or keep it forum-based, but even if we do keep it forum based, I'd look to build an extension that will achieve the email feature if it isn't included as standard.

Thanks. I am subscribed to some of the threads already, but I'll look into subscribing to the various forums. I keep forgetting about the link at the top, so usually I don't subscribe unless I remember to do it when I reply.
I haven't seen anything about the new version of Nova, but usually I leave those things to my sim's webmaster *cough cough*. Having an integrated forum would be great though. I would love to see something like that on SB332 if the migration is easy enough. I considered creating a subforum on the main PF forums for SB332 discussions since I have that kind of power, but I don't know how well it would work since it's a separate site to refer people to. But maybe it's something to consider. Integrated forums would be better for the sim, but it might not work as well for building up activity on the fleet forums. But that's really a different topic. I think you've answered my question for the Discovery's forums.

Could always set up a SB332 sub-area on the fleet forums, and then add in a page to it using iframes, like I did to have the Discovery forums show within Nova (it's a hodgepodge solution, but these forums are technically a separate site from the Nova). They'd have to log in to the fleet forums to be able to post anything, but we could get the view to default on the 332 sub-forum rather than the forum homepage.

That's not a bad idea, though if we were to do something like that, I'd be tempted to just have the page go to the main forums. Maybe it would be worth just adding a link to the bar at the top of the page that directs to the PF forums. It wouldn't require making a hodgepodge of the code, and since they would need to log into the main forums anyway, it would let people know that there is other stuff there. We could still have our own subforum though, but unless it was shown on the index page, it might not be obvious how to get to it. I'll have to think about it. Any idea when the new version of Nova would be out?

Not yet - it's still early days for it. The new framework it is using (or at least the specific version of the framework) was only released recently. There are a number of different blog articles on the anodyne website that are detailing which direction it is going to go, and it looks like it is going to be a lot easier to create more and extensions for it under the new framework. I'd hazard a guess at the later part of this year - maybe into the start of next year depending on how much work needs to go into the core features

Ah, okay. We still have a while to think about it then.
