OK, so I wanted to get your thoughts on the format of the sim. I know we've been quite slow recently, and a large part of that is my fault, but I'm also wondering whether the forum format of the sim may be contributing to that? Many of us are likely used to the Nova system by now, where you get notified by email of everything that is going on that relates to you or your character. While you can subscribe to posts here on the forums, it isn't a perfect facsimile - for example, you just get an email about a post once - if there are more responses to it before you go on, log in and read it, you won't get emailed again, meaning that if you forget to check when the first email comes through, you may not be reminded again.

However we do have various advantages of the forum - the OOC discussion areas around our characters and the mission and so on I would keep regardless of our format, but there's also the fact that our joint posts in progress are publically visible, which I like - it lets people see what we're actually up to even if we haven't completed the post yet. There might be a way to simulate this with Nova, but I'm not entirely sure on that yet since I've never tried it before.

What are your thoughts? Do you think it would be better if we switched to a Nova system, or do you think that the forum system works well enough and we should stick with it?

Personally, I'm pretty rubbish with the Forum format. I'd like to see us switching to a Nova format.

I'm on several sims right now and all the others are Nova based. The way I manage my time these days, I generally deal with answering tags and working on posts at night and I start by going through my emails. Then logging onto the sims and answering tags and writing posts as they come up. I also find it useful to be able to read the post in my email, so when I'm not at my computer I can keep up to date with what's happening, even if I'm not contributing straight away.

While the forum does send a notification email to say that a reply to a topic has been posted, it doesn't display that reply right there in the email. I'll usually see that notification and say "I'll get to that later" before clicking on to the next email. Then, of course, I might not get back to it.

I'm pretty heavily geared towards Nova-based simming and find it difficult to shift gears to forum-based. So, from a purely selfish point of view, I'd vote for switching to Nova.

I was a bit against the forum format when we started, but I eventually got over it. That is, as long as I remember to check in on tags. I have so many sims going on, plus other things in the fleet, on top of real life stuff, so sometimes checking to see if I have new emails is the best way for me to know what's going on. I do like the idea of having a forum for OOC discussions, but it is nice to get those email notifications.

That being said, I could work with the forum format. I just having been very active since there really hasn't been much for Chloe to do. I know there is always interaction with the other members of the crew that isn't related to the plot. But we hit point where there wasn't much happening, and I let this sim slip to the side.

Yeah, I think there are definitely advantages to both. Nova's emails are definitely way better than what you get with the forums, but then the public nature of and the additional areas of the forums are a big bonus (and I've found on the Highlander that the other OOC areas of the forums tend to not get used or visited as much when the posting takes place elsewhere).

On a plus, I actually created a fairly simple mod for the Highlander yesterday that lets the saved posts and JPs be publicly visible: http://highlander.pegasusfleet.net/nova ... savedposts so that's one potential disadvantage of switching to Nova out of the way. There would need to be other work put in on the site to make it work (I hacked it apart quite a bit to turn it into the site we have with the forums being the primary focus), but I don't mind doing that if we do change format. But I don't want to change it unless everyone agrees that it would work better that way.

What does everyone else think? Anziano / Tal Sek / Tybald / Maya / Dalton / Oatha?

I think the forum format is kinda cool. I just wish I had email reminders or something.

Any other comments from anyone else? I'll see if I can get an email sent out to everyone about this at some point this week (since we've also got a few JPs which have stalled). We're still missing the opinions of a fair portion of the crew.

I think you can set up tapatalk and get push notifications. I used to have that set up, but my phone got reset and I never went back to set it up again. It's a thought at least.

Nova all the way. If I would have known this was forum I wouldn't have signed up. I really need those email notifications.
