Hey everyone

So, since Tal Sek joined us a while ago, I've been trying to figure out what to do about Andorian ranks, since we've never been shown a full system, and I'd rather list him on the manifest with an Andorian rank rather than a Starfleet one (unless at some point off in the future he officially joins Starfleet). We've only had about four ranks named, so I didn't have much to work off, but I think I have a system I'm semi-happy with. It uses a simplified rank structure like our Ent-era Starfleet ones do, so it has fewer ranks to think about. I'll list it below, with a comparison against our Starfleet ranks.

Thoughts? I'm still not entirely sold on the Able Crewman title, but it's liveable I think. Once I've got the rank structure pinned down, I need to find/make the rank images.

I've added in some images that I've found that I think would work well.

I'm still tossing up the idea of using what I've put in the table for Captain, or using this instead:

I'm also wondering about using this for Officer, and the current Officer image for Sub-Lieutenant:

Another option would be to use the below one for Officer, then the current Officer one for Sub-Lieutenant:

Thinking about it (and probably rambling in this thread) that might work out better, and be a more linear progression up the rank images.

Still undecided on the Captain image though. My thought with the one I put in the able was that with the Andorians it would essentially be like a senior commander, in charge of a group of ships, so would essentially be the same rank image but with an embellishment. But I'm not sure if the other one just looks better or not.

I think I'll go for having the second option for the Officer and Sub-Lieutenant ranks. Putting them into Nova now and updating the rank images in the table

Hello,

Thanks for the effort, I appreciate it! I'll look at memory alpha and some screenshots and try to meaningfully contribute to what you've already accomplished. I do like the Star emblem for captain more, but it may not work given how martial Andorians are.

This link has interesting ideas based on the Andorian Empire emblem,

We can say that the Quartermaster on Discovery is limited to a few protocol based designs and there is a Starfleet analogue Tal works with him on. The end result would be what you did already. Cause I really like em.

No idea why that page didn't come up in my own searches.

I think I'm going to change Lieutenant to Major, Sub Lieutenant to Lieutenant, and I'm not sure whether I'll change Officer to Sub Lieutenant or leave it as it is. I might at some point also change the crewman ranks to Soldier/Subsergeant/Sergeant.

My idea with this wasn't so that the quartermaster would come up with a different uniform for Tal to wear with rank insignia - I figure he would be the same as T'Pol, where she wore her Vulcan uniform and rank insignia until she resigned from the High Command. I was more thinking of just having a system for the ranks in place, with some sort of graphical representation of them on the site (though they obviously aren't canon; the rank images are actually taken from a Babylon 5 rankset that I saw, but looked generic enough to be repurposed)
