Here will be the thread for discussion on the character "Christina Curtis" BioPrevious questions asked: Your post mentions an apartment in Los Angeles, and your bio mentions a place in San Francisco?There are technically two places she can go to in Los Angeles - there is her father's home there, where she visits often, and she also has her own apartment there. The San Francisco apartment was one she was provided by Starfleet during her time at the Academy, and it's not one that she still has since she started taking deep space assignments.Where would she consider her hometown?Los Angeles. After her parents divorced, she stayed with her father who moved to LA, and that is where most of her growing up happened.Was she actually raised in England?She was raised in America. Her mother eventually moved to England, but Christina stayed with her father who moved to LA.Can you describe her accent?It's hard for me to really describe her accent in terms of how it sounds, since I'm not overly familiar with the differences in American accents in general, but since she grew up in LA, I consider her accent to be quite similar to the type you hear often on American TV and Films; it's not particularly harsh and is very easy for most people to understand, and it doesn't have any strong 'twang' to it that I associate with a lot of other American accents that I hear off of TV or Film.Do you plan on using some special diction to show where and how she was raised?I hadn't planned on it. As I said above, her accent is pretty mild, so there's no need for me to change the spelling of words in her speech. I don't honestly plan to place that much of an emphasis on where she is from on Earth, and I plan her to be more space-focussed, and about where she's going.Aside from MMA and rock climbing, what would she do for fun on Discovery?On such a small ship there's not a whole lot to do for entertainment; no holodecks or concerts or any of the other recreational activities you got aboard later Enterprises. While she tends to have a lot less free time than most of the rest of the crew due to her position, she reads quite a bit and gets Starfleet to forward her copies of new books that do well in reviews. She won't often sit in on the film showings on the ship, but will if there's a particularly good one on show.If she is extremely tired, but not particularly stressed, and wants to unwind how would she do it?She'll probably stretch her back and lie on her bed to read (anything; from a novel to reports) until her eyes begin to droop and she can go to sleep. If she's in a situation where she can't go to sleep and needs to be awake and ready, she'll try to do something to keep herself alert, and will probably end up going to the gym and exercising.What does her ready room look like? On the wall, on the desk?The room is fairly small so there's only a little bit of the deck space that can be personalised (the end of it on the same wall as the door has some shelving space on it) and one wall opposite the windows. Like on the Enterprise, Curtis likes to make a point to acknowledge the history of the Discovery, and has hand-drawn portraits of Charles Clerk and James Cook's HMS Discovery, Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton's RRS Discovery, the space shuttle discovery and the NX ship Discovery.
On the desk she tends to keep it pretty work-oriented; she has a photo of her and her dad by the beach, and a photo of her mother, her husband and Christina's half brother standing by the docks in Portsmouth. Other than that, she has her certificates from Starfleet Training Command and other items of display related to her service, and then several PADDs and work paraphernalia.Pick one, a) She is a jock b)She is a nerd.To be honest, I'd say she's a little bit of both, probably with a bit more of a leaning towards the jock side of things. She's physically active and enjoys her exercise and participating in sports, but at the same time she is fascinated by the possibilities and the phenomena out in space. She has a fairly high intellect, so studied quite a bit while at school and absorbed a lot of information, but again her training with the flyboys in Starfleet has brought a bit more of the jock in her out, due to the competitive nature of her colleagues and training companions.Jonathan Archer followed water polo, Sisko spoke of baseball, Picard fenced, does Christina follow a sport?Christina has picked up her parent's fond-ness for motorsport. I haven't quite yet figured out what form current motorsports would have on Earth in the 22nd century; whether they'd be hovercraft, or still wheel-based vehicles, or each sport being one or the other, but the one that she insists she be sent the latest recordings of is what evolved from Formula One, which I think I'm going to keep as wheel-based. I'm going to need to look more into articles that discuss Earth's civilian transport methods on the ground more to be able to come up with a concept for the type of vehicles used though.What's the last book she read?"The Approaching Storm", by Arnold Brown, a semi-fictional slant on the build-up to World War III.In keeping with the traditional image of the hotshot helm officer...does the Captain see herself as a risk taker?
In an emergency situation, would she favor a more tried and true solution or more of a "so crazy it might just work" approach?To answer both questions with one answer; she's a "so crazy it might just work" kind of captain. She's definitely a risk taker and she believes that Starfleet needs to take risks and try new things if Humanity is going to be able to make its place in the galaxy as someone to be taken seriously._________________
